Commercial LVT can expand, contract, shrink, or move when exposed to changing temperature, direct sunlight, moisture, rolling loads, or unsuitable jobsite conditions. In glue-down installations, insufficient adhesive transfer, incorrect trowel size, contamination, excessive open time, or traffic before curing can allow planks to move. Floating products may gap when locking joints are damaged, perimeter movement is restricted, the substrate is uneven, or large areas lack required transitions. A repair should begin by identifying whether the gap is isolated or part of a larger movement pattern. Closing the visible joint without correcting the underlying condition may cause the gap to return or move elsewhere.

Key considerations

  • commercial LVT joints gapping, vinyl plank gaps commercial, glue down LVT movement
  • commercial LVT, vinyl plank gaps, resilient flooring
  • dimensional stability, bond strength, joint integrity
  • stable installation, controlled movement, replaceable planks
