A heat-welded seam is created by routing a controlled groove between installed sheets and fusing a compatible welding rod into that groove with specialized equipment. When completed correctly, the weld helps close the seam and reduce pathways where soil, liquid, or contaminants could collect. Heat welding is commonly used in healthcare, laboratories, clean environments, education, and other institutional applications. Not all sheet vinyl is heat weldable, and the procedure must follow the flooring manufacturer's temperature, groove, timing, and trimming requirements. Heat welding cannot correct poor adhesive transfer, substrate movement, inaccurate sheet placement, or contaminated seam edges. The flooring must be firmly bonded and properly conditioned before welding begins.
