Floating luxury vinyl is not attached to the substrate across the entire floor. The planks or tiles connect to one another and move as a larger assembly. This can provide faster installation in appropriate spaces, but it also creates limitations. Heavy rolling traffic, fixed cabinetry, long uninterrupted runs, direct sunlight, temperature variation, and large concentrated loads may interfere with movement. Commercial projects should use only products specifically rated for the intended use. Required expansion space, transition locations, maximum room dimensions, substrate flatness, and perimeter details must be followed. Glue-down LVT may be preferable where rolling equipment, low-profile transitions, localized replacement, or greater dimensional restraint is required.
