Moisture moving through concrete can carry alkaline compounds to the surface. This may create a high-pH environment beneath glue-down flooring. Excessive alkalinity can weaken some adhesives, contribute to discoloration, damage backing materials, or interfere with patches and primers. The test method and acceptable range must be determined by the flooring, adhesive, mitigation, or preparation manufacturer. A pH result should not be evaluated independently from moisture conditions and substrate history. Cleaning the surface or obtaining one acceptable reading does not guarantee that alkalinity will not return. The complete slab and flooring system must be evaluated.
Key considerations
- concrete pH test flooring, alkaline concrete flooring adhesive, commercial floor pH testing
- concrete pH testing, flooring adhesive, commercial flooring
- bond strength, chemical compatibility, installation reliability
- substrate evaluation, alkalinity measurement, system-limit comparison
