MAPEI floor-patching products, such as the Planipatch line, are critical for correcting surface imperfections in concrete or wood subfloors. Even minor irregularities, such as shallow depressions or cracks, will telegraph through resilient flooring like luxury vinyl or sheet goods, and can create hollow points under tile, leading to cracking. A flat subfloor is the foundation of a durable installation, and patching compounds provide the high-strength, sandable interface needed to reach that standard. These products are formulated for high-strength adhesion and, when used correctly, can be feathered out to blend with the existing subfloor. If the subfloor is significantly uneven, however, spot-patching may not be enough; in such cases, a full self-leveling underlayment may be required to meet the manufacturer's flatness specifications for your chosen flooring. We recommend checking the floor flatness with a 10-foot straightedge prior to installation to determine the extent of patching needed.
