Laminate uses a decorative surface bonded to a particleboard, medium-density fiberboard, or other core. Modern printing can reproduce stone, wood, concrete, and solid colors at a lower cost than slab materials. Water entering sink seams, joints, or damaged edges can swell the core. Hot pans can scorch or delaminate the surface. Laminate is lightweight and can work well on existing cabinets that may not support heavy stone without modification.
