Granite is quarried in large blocks and fabricated into countertop slabs. No two slabs are exactly identical. Most granite resists ordinary heat and scratching well, but exposed edges and sink cutouts can chip from impact. Some granite is dense and absorbs very little liquid, while other varieties are more porous. Sealing needs therefore vary. The actual slab should be inspected for color, fissures, fill, movement, and seam planning before fabrication.
Key considerations
- heat resistance
- scratch resistance
- stain resistance
- unique slabs
- natural minerals
- multiple finishes
