MAPEI Keracolor S and Keracolor U are both high-performance, Portland cement-based grouts. Keracolor S (Sanded) includes graded quartz sand, which allows it to span joints from 1/8-inch up to 5/8-inch wide without shrinking or cracking. The sand provides the necessary structural support to prevent the grout from settling or collapsing within wider gaps. This makes it a reliable, cost-effective choice for standard floor tiles. Keracolor U (Unsanded) is formulated without sand, making it the proper selection for narrow joints between 1/16-inch and 1/8-inch. Most importantly, the absence of sand is vital when installing materials that are susceptible to surface abrasion, such as polished stone, marble, or metallic tiles. Using sanded grout on these materials will result in permanent micro-scratches. Both formulas provide excellent color consistency when mixed according to the specific manufacturer ratios. Always choose based on your joint width and the sensitivity of the tile surface material.
