In a flash-coved installation, sheet flooring is formed over a cove-support strip and extended vertically up the wall. A cap strip or other approved termination detail finishes the upper edge. This method reduces the open joint normally found where flooring meets separate wall base. It is commonly specified in healthcare, laboratories, food-service areas, clean environments, restrooms, and other spaces requiring frequent sanitation. Successful flash coving requires accurate cutting, stable wall conditions, approved adhesive, proper corner detailing, and compatible flooring. Inside and outside corners may be field formed, wrapped, or completed with manufacturer-approved accessories. Flash coving improves cleanability but does not independently waterproof the room. Floor drains, wall systems, penetrations, seams, and substrate conditions must be addressed separately.
