The adhesive must contact both the prepared substrate and the plank backing. Dust, old adhesive, paint, sealers, oil, and weak patching materials can interfere with the bond. If flooring is placed after the adhesive's approved working time, the material may not transfer properly. Excess moisture or alkalinity in concrete can also weaken some adhesive systems. Lifted edges may appear around doorways, sunlight-exposed areas, seams, or heavily trafficked locations. Repairs should include an evaluation of the substrate and adhesive. Adding glue beneath a loose edge may not last when the original cause remains.
