LATICRETE PERMACOLOR is a cementitious grout favored for its ease of use and versatility. It is mixed with water, which makes the application and cleanup process efficient for most installers. It provides excellent resistance to staining and is far more durable than standard cement grouts, making it suitable for high-traffic areas. However, because it is cement-based, it remains slightly porous and may require periodic cleaning or sealing to maintain its appearance in extreme environments. Conversely, epoxy grout, such as LATICRETE SPECTRALOCK, is a two-component resin system that is entirely non-porous upon curing. This makes it immune to staining and chemical degradation, which is why it is specified for commercial kitchens, steam showers, and heavy-duty environments. The tradeoff is in the installation; epoxy grout is more difficult to apply, requires strict temperature control, and demands a rigorous cleanup process to prevent haze. If you prioritize maintenance-free durability in a high-moisture area, epoxy is the superior choice, though it comes at a higher cost and requires more experienced labor.
