Engineered quartz combines mineral particles with pigments and binders. Its appearance is more controlled, and it generally does not require sealing. Quartzite is a natural metamorphic stone. It can provide dramatic veining and strong heat resistance, but many quartzite slabs require sealing because natural stone can absorb liquids. Some stones sold with quartzite-style names may contain softer minerals or behave more like marble. The actual slab should be tested and identified rather than selected by trade name alone.
