Some systems use a barrier layer intended to keep spills and pet accidents from quickly reaching the cushion and subfloor. Other backings are designed to remain dimensionally stable in humid or moisture-prone environments. A moisture-resistant backing does not waterproof the room. Liquid can still enter at seams, edges, walls, vents, and transitions. Cleaning methods and extraction equipment must remain compatible with the backing and adhesive system.
