Tufted carpet is created by inserting yarn through a primary backing and securing it with adhesive and secondary backing materials. Tuft bind is especially important in areas exposed to rolling traffic, aggressive vacuuming, seam stress, furniture movement, or objects that can catch carpet loops. Insufficient tuft bind may contribute to pulled yarns, edge ravel, or zippering in loop-pile carpet. The test value should be reviewed with the carpet construction, fiber, backing system, use classification, and manufacturer requirements. A strong tuft-bind result does not independently guarantee overall carpet durability.

Key considerations

  • commercial carpet tuft bind, what tuft bind means, carpet yarn pull resistance
  • tuft bind, commercial carpet, carpet backing
  • yarn retention, edge durability, traffic resistance
  • anchored tufts, backing adhesion, tested construction
