Click-lock edges are engineered to support ordinary household traffic when the floor rests on a suitably flat and firm substrate. Low areas allow joints to bend repeatedly. Forcing planks together, using damaged material, or striking the joint incorrectly during installation can also weaken the connection. Heavy rolling loads and appliances can place additional pressure on the joints. Excessively soft underlayment may permit more vertical movement than the locking system can tolerate. Broken joints generally require plank replacement. The supporting condition must also be corrected to prevent the new plank from failing.
