The sink rim rests on the counter and carries much of the load. This design works well with laminate and wood-based counters because the exposed core can be covered and sealed. The raised rim can collect debris and requires cleaning around the edge. Drop-in sinks are often easier to replace without altering the countertop, provided the new sink fits the existing opening.
