A small tear may be bonded, seamed, or patched, while extensive backing damage may require replacement of a larger section.
The repair depends on the tear location, carpet construction, pile direction, and availability of matching material. Damage near a seam or transition may be repaired by rebuilding the edge. A tear in the middle of a room may require a bonded insert. The cause, such as furniture movement, pet damage, or delamination, should also be corrected.
