A floating floor can flex slightly when walked on. Excessive flexing occurs when the substrate does not meet the required flatness or when the underlayment is too soft. Small debris beneath the floor can create a clicking or crunching sound. Locking joints may also move when they are incomplete, broken, or stressed. Noise near walls or doorways may come from moldings, transitions, or flooring rubbing against fixed surfaces. The floor should be inspected for vertical movement and substrate irregularities. Lubricants or powders should not be placed into the joints because they can contaminate the flooring and complicate repairs.
