Rigid-core flooring is usually manufactured as a multilayer plank with a solid composite core and click-lock edges. It is commonly installed as a floating floor over a properly prepared substrate. Flexible luxury vinyl is thinner and conforms more closely to the surface beneath it. Because of this, floor preparation is especially important. Adhesive-backed installation can create a firm, low-profile floor that works well around cabinets, transitions, and rolling traffic. Rigid construction does not eliminate the need for a flat substrate. High spots, low areas, debris, and abrupt joints can still damage locking systems or cause movement. The best construction depends on room size, substrate, furniture, moisture conditions, repair needs, height restrictions, and manufacturer requirements.
