Cold-storage spaces create conditions that can damage ordinary flooring systems. Temperature changes may cause movement, condensation, brittleness, or bond failure. Possible systems include quarry tile, urethane-cement flooring, MMA resinous flooring, specialized epoxy, insulated panel systems, or other products specifically rated for cold environments. The selection depends on whether the space remains continuously cold, must be installed while operating, receives hot-water cleaning, or is exposed to grease, food acids, pallet jacks, or impact. Substrate temperature, vapor movement, insulation, joints, drains, door thresholds, and curing conditions must be evaluated. A standard room-temperature product should not be assumed suitable.
Key considerations
- commercial freezer flooring, flooring for walk in coolers, cold storage floor systems
- freezer flooring, cooler flooring, urethane cement, MMA flooring
- cold-temperature performance, thermal-shock resistance, moisture resistance
- specialized resin systems, low-temperature installation, heavy-duty construction
