Stair traffic concentrates pressure at the nosing. Soft or thick pad can allow the carpet to flex excessively and create an unstable rounded edge. Rubber, firm rebond, and specialty stair cushion may be appropriate when approved. The selected pad must work with the carpet style and stair installation method.
