Quartz is an engineered surface made from mineral particles, pigments, and binders. It does not normally require sealing and is available in controlled colors and patterns. Granite is natural stone, so every slab has unique movement, mineral deposits, and color variation. Most granite benefits from periodic sealing, depending on the stone and finish. Both materials can chip at exposed edges and should be protected from direct cutting and concentrated impacts. Quartz should also be protected from high heat because excessive temperature can affect the binders.
