Glue-down flooring is bonded directly to the prepared substrate. It generally has minimal vertical movement and can be useful around cabinets, rolling furniture, large connected areas, and transitions to thinner materials. Click-lock luxury vinyl connects into a floating assembly. It does not require adhesive across the entire floor but needs perimeter expansion space and may require transitions between large areas. Floating installation can simplify removal, but replacing a plank in the middle of the room may require disassembly or an approved cut-and-repair procedure. Glue-down flooring requires particularly careful substrate smoothing because imperfections may show through the material.
