Soapstone is dense and generally resistant to many household chemicals. Mineral oil or wax treatments may darken the surface but are not necessary for sanitation. Scratches can collect residue and may be sanded or blended when desired. Avoid abrasive tools unless they are part of a planned refinishing process.
