Completed flooring is often exposed to lifts, carts, ladders, paint, drywall dust, mud, tools, and other trades before the building opens. Protection should match the floor. Some tapes, plastic sheets, rubber-backed products, adhesives, and coverings can stain, trap moisture, transfer plasticizer, or damage finishes. Protection must be maintained, cleaned, and replaced when damaged. Debris trapped beneath hardboard or temporary covering can scratch the floor. Traffic and heavy equipment should remain off the installation for the required cure period. Responsibility for installing, maintaining, and removing protection should be documented.
