Wiping wet mud can spread it deeper into the carpet. Once dry, gently break up the soil without damaging the yarn and vacuum thoroughly. Treat remaining color from the outside inward. Mud containing oil, fertilizer, animal waste, or chemicals requires additional precautions and may need professional cleaning.
